Visual Art

The excitement of being creative and the pure joy of creating art are the driving forces behind art education for the children at Lupine School. Art skills and the elements/principles of design are taught so the students can better express themselves, think creatively, problem solve, and more fully embrace and appreciate the visual arts throughout their lives. The emphasis is on continued exploration, understanding, and discovery.

The students experiment with an array of techniques and art media, are introduced to various master artists, and learn about art from different cultures. The art curriculum integrates with the diverse thematic units to make it more meaningful.

expressing ideas through music

Music

Lupine students have music class twice a week. In our Orff inspired model, students explore music in a way that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments. A key characteristic of this approach is that lessons are presented with an element of play, which helps the children learn at their own level of understanding.

Music at Lupine connects to the students’ thematic studies and project-based learning. Often these integrations are created by the students and are performed at our Celebration of Learning events.

Spanish

The Spanish program at Lupine introduces and engages learners to be able to name the world around them and communicate simple everyday messages. Language and cultural traditions are taught through modeling, songs, stories, games, cooking and projects. As students develop and grow their skills, vocabularies expand, and our students’ ability to understand, converse, read and write in Spanish grows. Spanish classes meet twice a week for all Lupine students.

P.E.

Lupine students engage in a variety of play-based physical activities. PE is an engaging experience that inspires students to run, jump, and laugh together. Students participate in individual, small and whole group activities aimed at developing gross motor skills, physical fitness, and teamwork. The goal of our PE program is to foster enjoyment of physical activity and play in every student. We provide opportunities for each student to experience success, to develop a range of developmentally appropriate fine and gross motor skills, to participate in a wide range of games, sports and activities and to reflect on their own personal fitness, setting goals and measuring progress along the way.

In addition, PE provides opportunities for character development, allowing students to develop and practice cooperative supportive behaviors in a challenging and physical context.
